It’s been awhile since I talked about Gun X Sword. Series is moving along slowly. Getting repetitive and I really have no clear idea about where it’s going. The only thing keeping me watching this series is la tortuga (the turtle). The turtle is awesome!

Spoilers: (Show)
You learn more about Van’s armor in this episode. You actually meet Gadved, the person who enhanced Van’s body so it’d work in Dann. Apparently there are 7 original armors and they are named after the days of the week. Van’s is Dann Thursday. Gadved has one of the original armors too and he carries an axe instead of a sword. It turns out Gadved works with the claw man and apparently is trying to recruit Van. Also, it turns out it was Gadved who invited the claw man to the town and killed Helena (Van’s wife) during their wedding ceremony. It’s still not clear why Gadved did that and why he follows the claw man, but it was for the better of the world. He didn’t have an explanation for Helena’s death either.
So they get in a big fight. In the end of the fight, Van wins. No big surprise there and Gadved is killed. His companions swear to avenge his death.
Do remember this was when Van told Wendy to leave and go home. Wendy turns up and finds an old man talking about dreams and the world and how most people’s dreams aligned and for those who don’t, will only create conflicts. Later when Joshua’s brother shows up, we learnt that he was the claw man. Some fight scenes occur, but the claw man and his companions were able to escape.
You also learn that Wendy’s brother will be piloting the armor Sunday.
Episode 14 was basically a filler or maybe it was introducing a new character for the sake of it. Out comes Priscilla, an armor piloting lady who’s won many fans. She and her older sister takes care of orphans and she tries to give them a better life by eating bread crusts herself. Quite noble. A company had hired Van to represent them in the armor tournament. The winner of the tournament gets a lump sum of money which both Van and Priscilla needed. So who’s going to win? Well Van wins the battle, but apparently the registered armor that was suppose to fight shows up and loses to Priscilla and she wins the money.
The next 2 episodes are about Van’s battle with Woo, another pilot of one of the original armors. She has some Oedipus complex, where he hated his father and loved his mother. His attempt to murder his father failed when his mother blocked him and he stabbed and killed her instead. Weird guy. But anyway, somehow this led to anger against Van which isn’t too clear why. Their first battle ended with Van injured quite badly and Woo’s ultimatum was to either die in the next battle or leave here in 3 days and don’t ever chase after the claw man again.
Here Van thinks deeply. He can’t win no matter how many scenarios goes through his head. He’s confused and lost and doesn’t want to die. Wendy got really sick and a high fever trying to take care of him. So he turned around and took care of her. At the end, Van decides it’s better to run away and live than to die fighting for the cause. Quite an unexpected turn of events and for once you saw Van’s truly weak side. Wendy on the other hand held strong and said if Van wanted to run away, he should, but she’ll continue her journey trying to get her brother back.
Van is even more confused now. He has some flashbacks to Helena and who he was before he met her. All this while, he’s playing with the puzzle/trinket that Gadved had given him. Suddenly by luck the puzzle is solved and a sword key comes out. He realizes something about how Helena and him are connected and blah blah and becomes super strong. I don’t think the sword key had anything to the do with the upgrade besides the fact it helped him solve an internal conflict. The battle ended pretty fast with Woo dying.
The best scene was when they needed money and Van suggests they gamble. Wendy agrees with this proposition and goes to a casino. She ends up betting on a turtle racing by betting all her money on her turtle. It was funny how she was cheering her turtle on, saying how if he doesn’t win, he won’t get anything to eat and if he did win, then he’d get some nice food. But he was still placing 2nd until Van screams if he doesn’t win, he’ll turn him into turtle steak. At this time, he makes a weird face (see my AIM buddy icon) and tries his best and jumps to victory. It was hilarious. Later, you learn that Van doesn’t like turtles and Wendy gets mad at him.
So the journey continues.
