So after hearing this show from Xyon and a couple other friends, I decided to give it a shot. Let’s just say I finished watching 2 seasons worth in a week. Season 1 was really good. Season 2 was good, but I still think season 1 was better. Ending was a bit rushed in my opinion. Given that each episode is ~42mins long and that there’s 22 episodes in each season, that’s about 31 hours of my life.
So the each season had it’s own overlaying theme, while each episode followed a pretty standard pattern.
In season 1, the overlaying theme was uncovering the truth of the death of Lilly Kane.
In season 2, the overlaying theme was uncovering the truth of the bus crash which killed 8 students.
Each episode compromised of Veronica Mars taking requests from friends and students and helping them investigate or commit espionage.
Anyway, the story is about a girl named Veronica Mars. Her father used to be the sheriff in town, but was impeached (or whatever word they used to mean kicked out of office in the middle of his term) and now he’s a PI (private investigator). Veronica Mars helps out (quite a bit).
They are quite a few important groups of people in this series. As she says early on, either you’re in a family of a millionaire, or your family works for millionaires.
09’ers – basically the rich kids at school who lives in the zip code ending with 09.
Poor students – not really their name, but they’re basically the opposite spectrum of the 09’ers.
PCH – Pacific Highway Coast, a biker gang
Fitzpatricks – the mafia in town, basically runs the drug cartel
Don’t remember any others off the top of my head right now.
Anyway, Veronica is like the connection between everyone (maybe besides the Fitzpatricks). Everyone comes to her when they need help, and in return she either gets cash or ‘favors’. She’s pretty sneaky, and somewhat flirtatious, having way too many relationships, a couple only to take advantage of.
Season 1 had a satisfying ending. Most loose ends were resolved. There were a few things to continue the next season and some tied up ends even got re-loosened, but the season 2 just had gapping amounts of unresolved things.
*** MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD ***
So I had noticed a couple things along the way. I don’t remember them all, but here are the ones that are still clear in my mind:
At first I had no idea what type of STD Chlamydia. I was searching for Clemydia, Clemedia, etc and Google spelling correction finally gave me the correct spelling. At first, I was wondering why this STD stayed dormant for so long, and if it appeared to be curable. Is it fatal? Turns out it’s not that harmful and may take years for symptoms to appear. I was just curious why the Cassidy (Beaver) never got it cured. Which means Duncan now has an STD and if Meg was still alive, she’d have an STD too! Does Chlamydia transfer to babies, if so Meg’s and Duncan’s baby now has Chlamydia. Now that I think about it, wouldn’t Logan have this too, along with everyone else Logan has had sex with: Kendall and Hannah. And you know how Kendall is. That’ll mean Aaron (which no longer matters) and probably Liam Fritzpatrick too. Interesting… I wonder what the likelihood of catching Chlamydia is.
Was the re-election of Lamb a mockery of the Bush re-election?
Is it me, or does Leo look like Ben Affleck?
I thought Mac and her biological mother and sister did really look alike. The sister was awfully cute too.
The text messaging thing was rather stupid. Anyone can text message and leave a different return #. You just go to the cell phone service providers website and send the SMS message through there.
I learnt that if the man declines the marriage, he is unable to ask for the engagement ring back. However, if it’s the woman that declines the marriage, she has to return the engagement ring. Reminds me of the the earnest money when buying a house.
The break up between Alicia (Wallace’s mom) and Keith was somewhat forced and rushed. It didn’t seem to warrant a break up.
Principal Clemmons became rather cool at the end after recognizing Veronica’s power and used it instead of fought it. Reminds me somewhat of Detective Conan where the police believes Conan’s deductions instead of treating him like a kid.
Seems like Troy’s going to be around in season 3.
So it hasn’t been revealed yet, but what do you suppose Kendall (Cassidy and Dick’s stepmother) hid in Logan’s shower?
And how the heck did jury find Aaron Echolls not guilty for anything. I found that pretty much unbelievable and probably the weakest link in the series. I also felt that Logan was extremely stupid in erasing all those tapes.
I’m guessing at the end when Kendall comes into Keith Mars’ office, she’s going to ask him to investigate Aaron Echolls’ death?
The thing with Aaron’s cell mate (the sketch that Veronica was sealing in envelopes) was never followed up either.
I didn’t understand why Veronica’s dad text messaged her that Aaron’s jury has reached a verdict when he knew she was in the middle of a final. She knew she had to ace this last quiz to get the Kane scholarship, but knowing that the verdict was out, she’d never be able to concentrate on the final. So the only possible reasoning being the father wants her close to home (Hearst instead of Stanford) and sort of did his own little sabotage, but I find that very unlikely. Oh well. *shrug* That just means it’s pretty certain Veronica’s going to Hearst with Wallace next year.
The ending showed Duncan had connections with Kane’s top security guy. And then there’s the whole thing about the trophy as the murder weapon. So maybe something will be revealed in season 3.
Season 3 starts airing on Oct. 3, 2006. Can’t wait for the next season. Is another season of 24 coming?
I just noticed the proportions of the video clips is incorrect. Will be redoing them soon.
