So RayAlome sent me to watch this trailer a week or 2 back: Hereos – Promotion Trailer. It’s a new TV series on NBC. It was semi interesting so I decided to give it a try this weekend. You can actually watch latest episode on their website: NBC Rewind. Of course they’ll stick in random ads.
Anyway the story is simple, pretty much like X-Men, but not as crazy. Humans are evolving, not because of random mutations, but because it’s destiny. The Human Genome project is already completed, and people with special genes already exist and are just waiting to be awaken, and as a prophecy/oracle thing, it appears that there’s going to be chaos soon.
For some reason, I think the show wants to bring out logical reasonings of how some of these things are actually happening.
From the first 2 episodes, I already have some questions: (Show)
The thing that bothers me the most is the fact the mom of the genius boy and also the woman who strips on her webcam in her garage. What type of super power does she have? It appears that she faints and when she wakes up, things that she’s uncapable of doing happens. However, every time something miraculous (if you can even call it that) does happen, she’s unaware of it and time elapses. This leads me to believe she’s got dual personalities, where the main one is unaware of the other’s presence, while other is completely aware. Her alter-ego has knowledge and strength that the main personality doesn’t, just like how Brad Pitt and Edward Norton was in Fight Club.
Also, it very much resembles Wolfgang Grimmer in Monster (the anime). Wolfgang Grimmer was an orphan from Kinderheim 411, and also part of the psychological experiments East Germany was doing post WW2. Grimmer grew up not remembering much of his past, so he was a spy for some time and ended up as a journalist afterwards trying to find the truth of his past. All he can remember is a cartoon named ‘The Magnificent Steiner’, who was an average everyday guy, but when he was pinned by a mob of gangsters, he would go become the Magnificent Steiner (sort of like how Bruce Banner turns into the Hulk) and beats the crap out of everyone. However, there’s one thing different between Steiner and the hulk, is that Steiner isn’t aware of himself changing. When he regains conciousness, he sees everyone beat to crap, and thinks whenever he’s in a pinch, someone comes to his rescue, not realizing it’s himself that saves himself every time.
It resembles this single mother quite well, because whenever she’s in severe stress, she blacks out and when she wakes up, everything’s for the better. However, clearly time elapses, which leads me to think that she has multiple personalities.
Another question I have is if the kid is a hero or not. He’s a super genius young kid. Maybe, he has the power to absorb knowledge really quickly.
There were a couple other heroes including 2 that can apparently fly, the girl that can’t get hurt, a painter that can tell the future, one that can read minds, which brings up an interesting question on the arrest of the one that can read minds. He was arrested for knowing the code name some investigators gave to a mass murderer. How the heck would the murderer know about the code name? After reviewing that chunk of video, it turns out Siler was actually part of a dying message. The investigators actually spoke Siler’s name out loud right before he walked in, not sure why she claimed otherwise. Another interesting fact upon reviewing was when you’re listening to the girls thoughts, I think she actually said, “You hurt my mom and dad. Please don’t hurt me.” Did NBC just review who Siler is? or at least the murderer of this case. Is Siler going around trying to eliminate all the other hereos? If you have heroes, you must have villains I suppose.
My favorite hero so far is Hiro, the Japanese guy that can distort the space time continuum. He apparently can reverse time and teleport. When he teleports, time still moves, however, items on himself don’t. Meaning his watch shows Oct. 2 when it’s already November something, 5 weeks later. In episode 2, you see New York get nuked, but with Hiro’s special powers, he returned to 5 weeks earlier and the story continues.
There’s 2 characters in this story which sort of intertwines everyone. The professor’s son who is continuing his father’s research after he was murdered and the murderer code name Siler (Sila/Sylar/Syla?). Siler hasn’t been revealed yet, but he’s killed the painter and a husband and wife. No idea what the husband and wife connection is, but they do have a small daguther.
