This movie was somewhat disappointing when compared to Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, and Red Dragon. All of those were a thriller trying to solve a puzzle. This one was just telling a story that was laid out in plain site and just executing with no sense of mystery at all. There was enough gore if that’s what you like.

There’s really nothing much to talk about this. It’s the prequel of the famous Hannibal films and the Thomas Harris series. However, it lacks what I would say is a good plot. There is enough gore to satisfy most people desires, but what I liked about the previous stories was the fact there was a mystery, something that had to be solved, something that had to be explained.
This story starts off with Hannibal being a little kid and losing his entire family in war. He also witnessed his little sister being beaten to death and eaten. When he grows up, he swores revenge. Along the way, he escapes from Soviet rule and manages to escape to his uncle’s place, who apparently is no longer around, leaving only his wife and a lot of money.
Hannibal grows up there and gets accepted into a prestige medical school in Paris.
He returns back to his hometown years later and so conveniently, someone had dropped the bag of the dogtags of the soldiers that at his sister. His revenge starts and he starts picking off them one by one.
Gory, definitely. Intriguing storyline, definitely not.
