Our division had another morale event yesterday as we went to watch Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. All in all, the movie was fun, but the storyline dragged on and ended with a big whopping TO BE CONTINUED. Though Keira Knightley is as hot as ever, so a must-watch if you’re a Keira fan.

Movie starts up with Will and Elizabeth about to get married on a gloomy day where it was raining. Then in comes a new Lord from England that apparently has more power than the governor and arrests Will and Elizabeth because they had aided in Jack Sparrow’s escape. It turns out this new Lord Beckett is also evil and says in exchange for their freedom, Will will have to retrieve Jack’s compass for him. Apparently that compass doesn’t just point to one location, it points to the thing your heart most desires, which got confusing when Jack couldn’t get the compass to point toward 1 direction, even when his heart only desired one thing.
From that point on, things just got silly. Elizabeth managed to escape sometime later and finally came back into the storyline so guys like me can oogle over her. She was gone for a good half an hour or so and I was starting to feel sad and disappointed. We got to meet Will’s father as he has become a servant of Davy Jones and Davy Jones has came back to retrieve the debt that Jack Sparrow owes. However, Jack knew his time was up and has been searching on how to outwit Davy Jones. He almost manages to succeed as he got ahold of Davy Jones’ heart (which he had cut out after unbearable pain from his loved one). Of course he did this with the help of Will who did most of the work.
Davy Jones crew basically replaced Barbossa’s crew from the 1st movie being the ‘invincible’ army. However, Davy Jones crew did have the ability to summon this big octopus like creature called the Kraken.
There was a witch that was introduced in this story and I could barely hear half of what she was saying. She did give Jack Sparrow a jar of dirt, which I found out later had a much more meaningful use than what I had anticipated. For those who haven’t watched the movie, MAJOR SPOILER AHEAD!!! Well, Jack gets eaten by the Kraken monster. I had thought the jar of dirt (since it didn’t do anything up to that point), would be how Jack escapes death. However, as Xyon pointed out, what the jar of dirt was meant for was the fact that Davy Jones was not allowed to step on land and the dirt represented land.
Another confusing aspect of the story was the flirting between Elizabeth and Jack, when she’s about to be married to Will. Did she really subconciously prefer Jack? At the end of this movie, Will sees her kiss Jack, though it was weird that he didn’t really have much of a reaction. However, the part he missed was the fact that she had trapped Jack on the boat forcing him to fight the Kraken on his own.
And guess who appears at the end of the movie? Barbossa is back! Yes, he was the captain of the Black Pearl in the 1st movie with the invincible pirates.
