The World’s Fastest Indian

Watched this movie a week ago. Another one of those feel good movies, where you know the ending only a few minutes after you start watching. Though what makes this type of movie good is not how the story ends, but how it progresses. In one sentence, the movie is about an old man journeying to the other end of the world trying see how fast his motorcycle named Indian can go. I was curious why they chose Anthony Hopkins to play an Indian. Haha.

One thing that struck me as strange was the fact that the movie would use the term MPH (miles per hour) instead of km/h (kilometers per hour), because Burt’s from New Zealand and even in New Zealand, he was talking about how fast his motorcycle could go in MPH units. I’ve confirmed with Tera (a friend living in Australia) and the Speed Limits New Zealand, that they do in fact use km/h and not MPH. Just found that interesting. Maybe all racers like to talk in MPH instead of km/h, though wouldn’t saying speeds in km/h make you sound faster? I’m driving at 100km/h instead vs I’m driving at 60mi/h.

Shure E4C Earphones

As I mentioned several days ago, I finally received my pair of Shure E4c-n Sound Isolating Earphones in Black.

shure e4c-n

I had actually mention a few months ago, before I got my Logitech Wireless Headphones for iPod, I was contemplating on getting either the Etymotic ER-4P Portable Earphones or Etymotic Research ER-6 Isolator Earphones, but I hesitated and the prices just weren’t right. Last week, or maybe 2 weeks ago, Buy.com was having almost 50% off Shure earphones including the coupons available on the new black versions of their E2c, E3c, and E4c. I jumped on this opportunity and got myself a nice pair of earphones and am quite happy with it.

The sound is just amazing! Or maybe that’s just the self-fulfilling prophecy since I paid so much for it. I’ve read reviews and they’ve compared the Shure E4c and the Etymotic ER-4P and both were in the same ballpark in regards to quality. They did mention the E4c was missing a shirt clip, which I can totally understand now. The wiring is a bit thick to ensure quality, but that leads to a heavy dangling wire.

The earphones comes in one of those stupid plastic super sealed boxes which requires a razor to open. Inside you’ll find instructions, registration cards, the actual earphones, a volume control unit (which isn’t actually attached to the earphones), tons of ear pieces so you can find the correct ones that’ll fit your ear, some replacement parts, and even a earwax picker. The ear pieces are the interesting part. There’s foam; there’s soft plastic; there’s hard plastic; they even have those funky 3 layered ear plug thingies. I haven’t tested all of them yet, but so far the soft plastic is what I’m using. I actually had to switch to a smaller size because the default ones that came on the earphones were a bit too big.

At first it was hard getting used to the earphones, because the plastic actually expands to fill your entire ear. This helps isolate sound and allow more air for bass noises. They help isolate sound so much, I’ve already not noticed 5 or 6 people that were calling my name at work trying to get my attention. Haha.

Did a quick search on Blingo and found this review: TrustedReviews

Funky Cat Maybe

Funky Cat Maybe (ファンキー キャット メイビー) (from Tera). A really cute anime video with characters based off the popular anime: To Heart. Some of them even grow cat ears (猫耳 – nekomimi)! They also have somewhat frightening large eyes, much larger than regular animes (if that wasn’t already large enough for you). I also didn’t get why only 1 girl had her eyes opened, while the rest of the dance crew had their eyes closed. Was it taking too much time to render it with all of them opened? I wonder…

You can download the original version here: To_Heart_2_Dance.avi, but it’s a 80+ meg download. It appears RapidShare has removed this item due to inactivity, therefore I’ve uploaded the original to my Gallery: To_Heart_2_Dance.avi

This video really reminded me of a Japanese Zelda commercial: Legend of Zelda Dance Commercial on the Super Famicon (SNES). I guess it has to do with the sychronized dancing, the beats, and the rap song. The dance moves are awfully similar too!

I’ve extracted the audio: To_Heart_2_Dance.mp3, so if you think the tune is catchy, feel free to download and add it to your mp3 collection. You can also listen to it in your browser.

RedOctane Ignition 3.0

In my previous post, I mentioned I started playing this DDR like clone called StepMania. So I’ve got fed up with the Kraft Dance Pad. I finally figured out why I sucked so badly, not to say that I’m good, but I’m not as bad as I originally thought I was. The dance pad has what StepMania refers to as the Joystick Axes Problem where Up+Down won’t work and Left+Right won’t work because they implemented the the up, down, left, right buttons as joystick axes instead of buttons so to a computer up+down and left+right is never possible simultaneously.

So I asked around and apparently the industry standard for home dance pads is RedOctane Ignition, where 3.0 is the current version which supports PS1, PS2, Xbox, and PC USB. I was told to just search eBay and look for clones. The clones themselves costed more than used/refurbished Ignition 3.0s, so I decided to get the Ignitions instead. The going price for used Ignition 3.0 on eBay was ~$50 shipped. I decided to get 2 since I could probably save on shipping and it’d be fun to play with 2 people or even enter solo dual pad mode. Ended up purchasing 2 for $94 shipped. Sent payment on Wednesday and got my package today.

Setting it up was actually pretty fun. I didn’t know how they were going to break the foam apart to ship in such a small box.

Turns out it’s puzzle-like and it’s working out pretty well. I gave it a try and all the buttons are associated with a button and not just the axes.

So I finally got my first B score in StepMania, which I’ve never gotten before with the Kraft Dance Pad (now I know why), though I still get E’s for over 50% of my attempts. I am getting better though, or at least I hope so.

Logitech Customer Service Experience

I had a very good RMA experience recently with Logitech. I had purchased the Logitech Wireless Headphones for iPod through one of the recent deals. These are the bluetooth headphones I spoke of recently. Apparently, they’re prone to crack and once cracked, they stopped working completely.

I had purchased the headphones back in late August. Headphones started to crack in mid-October, but they were still functional. Several emails went back and forth, but we didn’t get anywhere. But as their website stated, RMAs can only be done through the calling into their customer service center. Since they were still working, I didn’t bother pursuing it further. Finally, in mid February, they got completely cracked and stopped working, so I got over my phone-phobia and called in. 10 minutes later, the guy said I should be receiving a new set of headphones in 7-10 days and then to toss the old pair away. He did remind me to keep the transmitter as that wasn’t going to be included.

I asked if I had to send anything in or if I needed any provide any proof of purchase. All he had me do was confirm the crack was in the dead center and to read off a secret number hidden underneath the ear cushion and everything was fine and dandy. Didn’t have to send the old pair back. Didn’t even have to fax in my receipt or proof of purchase.

Just got my headphones yesterday and now I’m one happy camper again.

iPod and iTunes communication error

So for the first time today, I got this error message:

“Another user on this computer is using the iPod software, so iTunes is unable to communicate with this iPod. Please ask the other user to log out.”

This error isn’t really documented well as Google only found 3 sites and only 1 with a useful answer: iLounge

I’m pretty sure it has to do something with my converting from Admin to User, but I made sure no other user was logged on besides me and even killed iTunes.exe. Didn’t really help. I tried undocking the iPod Nano and redocking it. Didn’t help either.

Apparently, there’s a process called ipodservices.exe that runs under SYSTEM. After killing that process, I was able to load my Nano into iTunes. I do have to admit I upgraded my iTunes yesterday to the latest version and had to install it with my Admin account. Maybe that was why this error occured.

Sean Paul

There’s these 2 new songs I’ve been playing on repeat for the past 4 hours:

Sean Paul – We Be Burnin’
Sean Paul – Temperature

trinity album cover

You can actually listen to both of these songs on his website. They have an audio flash player that plays both these songs. Using Ethereal, it turns out it’s just piping an mp3 through the flash player. You can download the mp3s here:
Sean Paul – We Be Burnin’Amazon.com / iTunes
Sean Paul – TemperatureAmazon.com / iTunes

The bit rate is a bit low, so it’s probably just good enough to listen to. The only fault on that website is the fact it only plays Temperature once and We Be Burnin’ will repeat for eternity until you click the rewind button. You can see that I’ve been listening through their audio player for quite some time.

The genre this music claims to be a mix between reggae, dancehall, and hip-hop. The tune’s actually quite catchy. Once again, I heard this song in my car and decided to get it.

忍 Shinobi

I’m going to start something different now on regarding my movie reviews. Instead of sticking links in random places, I’ll be listing them after my main paragraph (not including this).

shinobi poster

So I first saw the trailer for this movie awhile ago (from Lsiymle) and I finally got the chance to see this movie today. Overall, the movie was fun. If I had to summarize the entire movie in one sentence, I’d say it’s a mix between Naruto, Romeo & Juliet, Spiderman, and maybe Rurouni Kenshin. The movie itself may also be called Shinobi – Heart Under Blade. Like I said, the movie was a lot of fun, but the storyline itself was pretty much predictable, though I had expected a Romeo & Juliet ending, and that turned out a bit different. You can say this would what Naruto would be like in live action. It actually got a bunch of jutsu (moves) into this movie and it was pretty sweet.

The sound track was pretty awesome too, though I haven’t been able to find it. Only song I could find so far is the theme song: 浜崎あゆみ (Ayumi Hamasaki) – Heaven. You can click on that link and download the mp3, but the song is only okay in my opinion. If anyone finds these songs, please let me know:

  1. 運命と宿命の出逢い
  2. 死への序奏
  3. 慈しみノ彼方より
  4. 深淵の共鳴
  5. 不死の化身

So starting with episode 64, they’ve introduced a new Ending Song: マイペース. You can download the TV edit mp3 here: SunSet Swish – My Pace [TV] or at the source I found (which is a bit slow). The mp3 was taken from 17173 BBS.

StepMania

So I recently purchased USB Dance Pad. Kraft is giving these away for $10 shipping. I doubt shipping cost that much. It was less than a few lbs, so $5 UPS grounds top. Anyway, my way of looking at it was $10 for a cheap USB dance pad. Not that I like DDR or anything, I thought it might motivate me to exercise a bit. Haha.

So I was searching for DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) games on the PC and found this: StepMania. The interface is exactly like DDR, but is user customizable, meaning if you have an mp3, you can make your own dance track. The software itself doesn’t come with any songs, but they provide some downloads here. Also you can visit your favorite BitTorrent site and find ALL 8 DDR mixes. There’s a bunch of anime ones too.

Configuring the game wasn’t that hard. The gamepad is detected as joystick with 11 buttons so you just have to enter the configuration page and modify the key settings. The dance pad itself is okay for $10 worth. The buttons aren’t as responsive as I would’ve liked (or maybe I just suck) and it keeps slipping. As you can imagine, I’d did horribly. The best score I got, out of pure luck was a C on BOOM BOOM DOLLAR. Everything else I tried I either got a E or Failed, mostly failed.

The maximum resolution this game runs at is 1280×1024, good enough for most monitors, but I had hoped it’d run @ 1920×1280 since that’s my screen’s native resoltuion.

Anyway, if you’re a DDR fan, you should give it a try.
