Detective Conan – New Opening Song

Add another thing to make music I like: speak really fast, pause, and repeat. I generally don’t like rap, where singers appear to be just speaking, but if you speak with some sort of melody, I actually quite like that in fact.

Beginning with episode 457 of Detective Conan, they have a new OP: Opening: kumo ni notte 雲に乗って.

The song’s actually called 雲に乗って (Kumo ni Notte) by 三枝夕夏 IN db (U-ka saegusa IN db). The title of the song translates to Riding a Cloud. The name of the song brought up images of 孫悟空 (Sun Wu Kong / Son Goku) from 西遊記 (Journey to the West) as he rides his cloud with his stick. You can also watch the music video: 雲に乗って – 三枝夕夏 IN db. When the singer begins to sing really fast, her voice somewhat reminds me of Ran’s voice, maybe that’s why I liked it so much. After watching the music video, I found the singer to be extremely cute!

I’d like to introduce you to a new site: Stage6

While searching for videos related to the song/band, I ended up on this site. I’ve been here before, but it wasn’t until this time, I’ve actually made a quick search keyword for it: s6. This site is rather awesome. It’s basically like YouTube, and you might’ve heard about Universal suing DivX/Stage6 and then a counter-sue. However unlike YouTube which uses the crappy flash based video codec (flv), DivX uses their own DivX codec for streaming and the quality is awesome and the file size is small. The videos appear to stream just as fast as YouTube, but with much higher quality. Maybe as users find out about this site, the bandwidth will decrease.

However, to watch videos on Stage6, you do have to download and install a plug-in. It was rather fast and works in both IE7 and Firefox. It probably works in other browsers too, but I haven’t played with any other yet. Also, another feature of Stage6 is the fact they allow you to download the video onto your computer, which is pretty awesome. You can do it with YouTube also, but you have to do it in a very round-about way.

However I was able to find high quality versions of the PV:

Did I mention how cute the singer in this band is yet? Enjoy!

Code Geass and It’s Horrible Cliffhanger Ending

Before my cursing, I’d like to say that out of all the music they used in the opening and ending, the only one that I liked was Ending 2: Code Geass Season 1 ED 2. The song’s called Mosaic Kakera (モザイクカケラ) by SunSet Swish. SunSet Swish was also the group that did one of the ending songs I liked for Bleach. If you like the song, you can download the music video or the mp3. Somehow the way the lead singer sings a few syllables really fast, pause, and repeat really creates a nice melody that I enjoy.

@#$%!
@#$%!
@#$%!

Did I say @#$%! yet?

@#$%!
@#$%!
@#$%!

I’m still so pissed right now, imagine how pissed I was last night at 5am when I finished watching episode 25. I was so pissed, I couldn’t stop myself from cussing out in a chatroom. I wasn’t even able to fall asleep for over an hour because I was so angry. When I woke up this morning, I still had a big empty feeling inside me. How the heck could they end season 1 like that.

I started watching this series either on Sunday or Monday of this week. Last night, I only had 3 episodes to go, so I decided to finish watching all 25 episodes in 3 or 4 days. Big mistake. The ending left me in a state where I was not functional at all. I was so disappointed with how they ended season 1.

Usually, when a season ends, it gives viewers at least some type of closure, but leaves a cliffhanger so you’d watch the next season. However, there was NO CLOSURE AT ALL!!!

Just thinking about it makes me want to yell @#$%! @#$%! @#$%!

Don’t get me wrong. The series was awesome. The story was very fast paced, and none of those Naruto/Bleach style battles which take 6 episodes to complete. Each battle pretty much lasted the episode and sometimes you have more than 1 battle.

** MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD **

Besides Death Note, Code Geass also reminded me of Gundam Seed Destiny. Not just because it had robots, but the protagonist and antagonist were very similar. I forget the names of the characters in GSD, but like Lelouch and Suzaku, they were also very close friends with different ideas of how they should change the world. Both wanted to make it better, but they were on different sides of the war. One would try to convince the other to join their side, just like how Lelouch tries to convince Suzaku. Along the way, you get your robot upgrades and of course different sides have different technology.

Anyway, what Lelouch did to Princess Euphemia was really sad, and I wished he could’ve taken it back and accepted her offer like he decided to. But now it’s too late. I almost cried. *sniff*

Episodes 24 and 25 were released as “specials” as they came out months later after 23. I thought since season 1 ended, it would be a good time to watch it as I’ve heard people were dying just waiting for the last 2 episodes.

However, apparently I didn’t hear the last part where 25 almost killed them, now that we have to wait for season 2 to see what happens.

Episodes 24 and 25 were set up to be the big battle which would end it all. Either the Knights of the Black Order will win, or the Empire of Britannia will successfully destroy the terrorists. However, they decided just to tease us. Not only did they not complete the battle, but they’ve introduced new major aspects to the series.

A new “witch” gets introduced. Her name is V.V. and she’s come in contact with Suzaku. It’s not clear if Suzaku has obtained a Geass as well.

V.V. kidnaps Nunally, and Nunally (sister of Lelouch) being Lelouch’s raison d’être, he had to go rescue her leaving the battle midway. He gave full control to Toudou, but having the brains of the entire operation leave midway is bad both for morale and strategy. I first heard the word raison d’être in Ergo Proxy, also another anime series I finish recently. The definition is: The claimed reason for the existence of something or someone; the purpose of something or someone. I wouldn’t recommend Ergo Proxy for most people, unless you like mixing philosophy with anime. It just got utterly confusing and too philosophical to the point it wasn’t really enjoyable anymore. The animation and graphics were awesome though.

Last seen, it looks like the Empire of Britannia was going to be able to hold back the invasion until reinforcement came. Everyone in the Order of Black Knights were very confused why Zero (Lelouch) would run away in the midst of battle. Ougi (who is dying) had told Kallen to follow Zero, as Zero is not the one to abandon them in the midst of a battle. Something serious must’ve came up and told Kallen to go protect Zero.

And now back to the students. It’s obvious Shirley knows something is up and she is pretty sure Lelouch is Zero, but every time she’s about to confront him, something happens. She’s utterly confused what Lelouch did to her to make her forget him completely.

Then there’s the young girl (head of one of the major Japanese families) that says she’ll be wife of Zero and be his angel. Zero denies her request stating he’s already made a pact with the devil. Speaking of which, we still have no idea what the contract he made with C.C. is. We also never find out C.C.’s real name, but that doesn’t really bother me as much.

The last we see of C.C. is she charges into Orange-kun’s (Jeremiah) robot and dives into the sea with him. It looks like in order to take him down, she’s going to sacrifice herself. But she states, I wouldn’t want to commit lovers suicide with you (Jeremiah). Given that C.C. can’t seem to die, that would make sense. However, I’m still confused as to why she gave up on Mao and why he wasn’t able to fulfill the contract, which leads back to the question of what the heck the contract is. The contract was mentioned in the 1st episode, but never gets revealed even in the final episode of the season 1. Will Lelouch ever be unable to fulfill that contract?

C.C. also keeps saying she’s an accomplice, but not a comrade, but she keeps doing things that seems to risk her life in order to save Lelouch’s life.

The season ends with Suzaku and Lelouch pointing a gun at each other. At this point, Lelouch has taken off his mask and revealed that he is Zero. Kallen is shocked beyond belief and is left shaking on the floor. At this point, Lelouch begs Suzaku to join forces with him temporarily to rescue Nunally. However, Suzaku denies his request and says he’ll kill Lelouch and go rescue Nunally on his own. The last thing you see, well hear, is a gun fired and a flash of Nunally’s image.

So they end season 1 without letting us know who dies, an incomplete battle, basically no closure. Nothing at all.

Awesome Wedding Proposal

SueOn sent me this blog entry: Sara and I just got engaged! This was a pretty awesome wedding proposal and was really fun to watch. Do check out the video: My Early Muir Owl.

In the beginning of the clip, he tells of the setup:

Sara was told the artist, “Serge Gandaora” was exhibiting new work at a gallery called, 40000, in Chicago.

The piece was called “My early muir owl”.

Little did she know that it was all an elaborate ruse.

Turns there are quite a few anagrams used in this production.

  • Serge Gandaora = George and Sara (or Sara and George)
  • My early muir owl = Will you marry me
  • I tuba fuel = Beautiful

I couldn’t really find “I tuba fuel” in the video. I’m assuming it’s a common anagram and someone in the comments just mentioned it.

It was awesome to see how Sara’s expression slowly changed after looking through the top pane. First she was surprised to see that the weird objects actually formed letters and words. Then it semi-hits and she’s shocked when she realizes the artist wrote the message, “Will you marry me?” . Then when she sees George kneeling on the floor and realizes the artist was George, she becomes super shocked. Then everyone’s happy.

I pointed out that there was a bottom looking pane (which probably saw nothing), but was meant for George to get in position (kneeling) and hold out the ring. Very sweet.

Too bad they didn’t have real live footage of actual revealing, though the pictures did reveal a lot. Then again with these snapshots of freeze in time, it did have a very strong feeling of capturing the moment. Overall, it was a fantastic wedding proposal.

If you enjoyed the soundtrack, the song is actually called Sæglópur by Sigur Rós. You can watch the music video on YouTube: Sigur Ros – Saeglopur. I listened to a couple other songs by them and they’re actually rather nice and soothing.

Silk Trailer Music

I was watching the new trailer for Silk and I found the music near the end to be very beautiful. As you might’ve guessed, I’m very big on scores and soundtrack music. You can watch the trailer at HD-Trailers.net or Yahoo! Movies.

You can read my comments of the trailer on my HD-Trailers.net blog.

This blog entry is to share with you the song that I found to be very amazing. The music isn’t available to be purchase or download yet, so I’ve ripped it from the trailer: Silk Trailer Music.

silk trailer music

According to someone on the IMDb forums, this is an original score for this movie done by Ryuichi Sakamoto (坂本 龍一).

It is believed to be original score for the movie, done by Ryuichi Sakamoto, who contributed music for Babel.

From Wikipedia:

In 2007, the soundtrack album for Silk, the French-Canadian production will be released. Silk tells the story of a married silkworm merchant-turned-smuggler in 19th century France traveling to Japan for his town’s supply of silkworms after a disease wipes out their African supply. During his stay in Japan, he becomes obsessed with the concubine of a local baron.

I tried searching for it on Amazon.com, but wasn’t able to find it. I can’t wait for the soundtrack to be released.

No Audio When Streaming Video Through Windows Media Player

So for the longest time, I’ve been having problem with the audio when I streamed videos from particular sites. At first I thought it was just Firefox, but IE7 had had the same problem. CNN, MSNBC, and Yahoo! (just to name a few) all had problems with the audio. However, when playing videos off my gallery that used WMP (e.g. Detective Conan – Childhood Ending), WMP would play the audio fine, so I had initially eliminated WMP from the list of possible culprits for the problem. It was starting to get annoying as whenever I wanted to listen to a news report on CNN or MSNBC, I would have to find it on YouTube.

Anyway today, when I was trying to watch a trailer on Yahoo!: Facing Windows (Finestra di fronte, La), I was pissed that there was once again no sound coming from the video. The reason I was watching this trailer in the first place was that the foreign title La Finestra di fronte is actually the name of one of my favorite songs that I’ve listened to repeatedly and without the audio, I was definitely not enjoying it one bit. The song’s actually called Gocce di memoria by Giorgia, but the they also have a version with no lyrics and played by the National Symphonia Orchestra just titled Finestra di fronte (wasn’t able to find it on YouTube). If you’re interested, Amazon.com has the soundtrack available: La finestra di fronte (Facing Windows) Soundtrack. Anyway, it turns out this was the movie the song was used in and actually the the soundtrack that I have.

La finestra di fronte - Facing Windows - SOUNDTRACK - album cover

So I started searching online to find out what could possibly be causing this problem. I quickly found this thread: Multimedia: No audio when streaming video

This was exactly the problem I was having and turns out the solution was as simple as changing a 1 to a 0.

Here are the instructions provided by xray88:

Make this registry change and I’m pretty sure it will fix your problem. If it doesn’t work, you can always change it back. It’ll work. 🙂

Go to the following registry folder:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\
    NodeCLSIDs\{95037DA1-6ED9-4B27-8CFF-9AD3DFB0B2F2}]

Double click on “Auto Insert” on the right side of the box.

Change the Value from “1” to “0” and click OK.

You should be set.

I didn’t even have to restart either of my browsers and audio immediately started playing. It turns out that when “Auto Insert” is enabled, WMP has problems streaming content with mono audio. I have no idea what the “Auto Insert” thing does, but disabling it definitely got my streaming audio to start working again.

According to cwwl, there is another way to fix this without messing with your registry (for those who are scared to screw something up):

First Thanks to xray88 for the registry change it works.

If you do not want to change the registry do this. The registry fix is the best solution but the fix below will work for the faint at heart.

  1. Open Windows Media Player
  2. Click on the “Now Playing Tab” and select “More Options”
  3. Select the “DVD Tab”
  4. Click on the “Advanced Box”
  5. Under the Out Put Box “click the down arrow” beside (AS is (no change)
  6. Select “1/0 mono”
  7. Click “Apply & OK” and “OK” again
  8. Exit Media Player

I tried following these instructions, but they started to differ after clicking the Advanced button. A ffdshow video decoder configuration appeared and it did have the Output tab, but nothing similar to any of the instructions that follow. I wonder if the bug is actually an ffdshow bug then.

New Music

My favorite list of my music has just been updated. This list is basically the songs that repeat over and over whenever I’m at my computer.

Foo Fighters – Tired of You (Music Video – Live)
I first heard this song on I Think I Love My Wife. The movie was okay, not that great/funny in my opinion. I mean, I can’t really see Chris Rock doing a serious flick, which this attempts to somewhat become. However, it had a pretty awesome soundtrack. One of the songs they played was Foo Fighters – Tired of You and the chorus “I won’t go getting tired of you” just got stuck in my head, probably because grammatically it sounds incorrect (and may even be). However, it’s a neat song and I really like the melody.

Timbaland featuring Keri Hilson & D.O.E. – The Way I Are (Music Video)
I first heard this on the radio and really thought I hated the song. The way he sang “The Way I Are” grammatically incorrectly really bothered me at first. I mean, after the first time I heard the song, I believe all 5 or 6 people who called in and said dump it. One of the radio stations I listen to (WiLD 98.7) has this program call Bump it or Dump it. Anyway, as more and more radio stations started playing the song, I really liked the beat and the grammatically incorrect lyrics didn’t bother me as much anymore.

Linkin Park – What I’ve Done (Music Video)
I’ve always been a fan of Linkin Park, though I will agree that many of their songs sound too alike. This new song I first heard on the Transformers trailer and then again on The 11th Hour trailer. I have to admit, the song sounds good. Once again, it’s the tune/melody I like. I don’t think I know any other parts of the lyrics besides “What I’ve Done”, and that I only know because I had to find the song.

Sean Kingston – Beautiful Girls (Music Video)
Again, another song I heard on the radio. I have to apologize to Sean Kingston as when I first heard him on the radio, I imagined him to be a very skinny African American. He has a very distinct voice and I don’t know why I thought he was a skinny guy, but I was really shocked to find out how heroic portly (borrowed from Hjo3) he was. The song has a very distinct melody to it and at first I thought he was singing: “You’re way to beautiful girl”, which sounded odd to me. But as I said, the melody was what was neat about the song.

Kanye West – Stronger (Music Video)
Another song I heard on the radio. This song actually got me really pumped as every time Kanye West said “Stronger”, I’d yell “Stronger” (in my car) too! The background sound was really neat and I didn’t realize it was Daft Punk until RayAlome showed me the music video and told me the background music was Daft Punk. The song being played in the background is actually Daft Punk – Harder Better Faster Stronger.

I had totally forgotten about Daft Punk until now. I really liked Daft Punk’s music back in the day (high school and college). My favorites include One More Time and Around The World. They had a series of music videos done completely in anime style which I really enjoyed. What was interesting when I was reading the Daft Punk wikipedia entry was that there’s really no pictures of their faces. I quote:

Their outward personae have also changed over time. During their Homework years, the duo would usually wear masks to hide their appearance. When not wearing disguises, they occasionally preferred to be replaced by animation (as they appeared in The Work of Director Michel Gondry DVD) or have their faces digitally obscured for press kits. Very few photos of the duo’s faces exist, including a blurry one found in the Homework liner notes.

During a video interview shot in Japan, Daft Punk stated that they adorned their robot masks to easily merge the characteristics of humans and machines. However, Bangalter later admitted that the costumes were initially the result of shyness. “But then it became exciting from the audiences’ point of view. It’s the idea of being an average guy with some kind of superpower.” When asked on whether the duo expressed themselves differently within the robotic suits, Bangalter stated “No, we don’t need to. It’s not about having inhibitions. It’s more like an advanced version of glam, where it’s definitely not you.” With the release of Human After All, the musical duo’s outfits became slightly less complicated, consisting of simplified versions of the Discovery head gear and dark leather jumpsuits. The latter were designed by Hedi Slimane.

During the filming and promotion of Daft Punk’s Electroma, the duo went to great lengths to avoid showing their faces. As reported on October 2006, the band went as far as to wear black cloth over their heads during a televised interview. In November 2006, Daft Punk stated on Australia’s Triple J radio station that they prefer avoiding interviews rather than disguising themselves during them. It is believed that the mystery of their identity and the elaborate nature of their disguises has added to their international popularity.

Shop Boyz – Party Like a Rock Star (Music Video)
Yet another one from the radio. Nothing interesting to say about this one besides it sounds pretty good. I don’t generally like rap, but this song has a pretty good melody.

Plain White T’s – Hey There Delilah (Music Video)
The final one in my list, which I also first heard on the radio. Turns out this song is 2 years old, first released in 2005. When I first heard this music, I thought the song was really sweet and as more and more radio stations started playing it over and over, I started digging it. The hosts (mostly female) kept on saying how sweet the song was.

Lesson of the blog entry: Make your song have grammatically incorrect sentences and I may just add it to my favorites list.

Umbrella

Album Cover
rihanna - umbrella album cover
Album available at Amazon.com

There’s a new song by Rihanna that I like called Umbrella. You can watch the music video: Rihanna – Umbrella. I thought the tune was rather catchy and the beat was nice, though I didn’t particularly like the intro, as I’m not a big fan of rap. The ella, ella, eh, eh is especially catchy.

Here are the lyrics (from metrolyrics) (Show):

Anyway, the radio stations around here has been playing a remix of the song Umbrella and has inserted a guy singing You can be my Cinderella. I thought the newly added lyrics fitted well with the original song, though I think they still had some cutting/editing problems as the song had some parts that didn’t flow too smoothly. You can listen to the music in this video: Rihanna ft. Chris Brown- Umbrella/Cinderella (with lyrics). The video is just a collage of images.

Here are the lyrics (from metrolyrics) (Show):

When I first showed this song to RayAlome, he was commenting on how slow the song was. Apparently he has been listening to the Lindbergh Palace Remix, which is like twice or thrice the speed of the original. Not a bad remix either, as the beats are nice. When the song first started playing, the first few words of ella, ella, eh, eh, eh was really fast and having been told by RayAlome that he was accustomed to listening to the song a 3x the speed, I was totally expecting chipmunks. However, the voice sounded normal through the song. I was wondering if they had Rihanna sing fast for the remix and RayAlome said she must’ve. Cause when you increase speed, the pitch gets all messed up. There was also the Seamus Haji & Paul Emanuel Radio Edit which is also beaty. Not sure if I like that one yet. Both songs are available on her Umbrella CD.

Human Resources

human resources I was watching this music video: Human Resources (*WARNING* VIDEO IS NOT WORK SAFE!)

I thought the tune was rather catchy and it was actually a somewhat cool music video, stitched together with a bunch of clips from 80’s movies and TV shows.

I don’t know who the artist is and no one seems to have posted the lyrics yet, but I’ve ripped the song from the video to an mp3 and uploaded to my site: Listen / Download

Update:Thanks to softskilled for notifying me the artist/band is actually called Countdown. You should check out their album: Scratch & Sniff.

Here are the lyrics:

What’s your name and number and where do you sleep?
What is the color of your hair? We’ll be discrete.
And what’s your sexual preference or religious ties?
Do you have any diseases or political ties?
And we will need to know exactly the color of your eyes.
And have you ever done drugs or have you ever lied?
And need a fingerprint please. And what’s your mother’s maiden name?
And have any family members ever gone insane?

We’re the human resources.
We need to know what your every choice is.
What you like to drink, fight, fuck, and your voices now.
We are the human resources.

Where do you buy your clothes and do you rent or own?
Have you ever been arrested? Do you have a cell phone?
Do you find that people always like you right away?
Have you ever stolen something? Just forgotten to pay?
Do you have any children, or dogs, or cats?
And do you buy your cigarettes in cartons or packs?
Do you prefer to be on top? Do you like coffee or tea?
We just need a little more information please.

We’re the human resources.
We need to know what your every choice is.
What you like to drink, fight, fuck, and your voices now.
We are the human resources.

And we will need to know exactly the color of your eyes.
And have you ever done drugs or have you ever lied?
And we’ll then need a fingerprint. And what’s your mother’s maiden name?
And have any family members ever gone insane?

We’re the human resources.
We need to know what your every choice is.
What you like to drink, fight, fuck, and your voices now.
We are the human resources.

We’re the human resources.
We need to know what your every choice is.
What you like to drink, fight, fuck, and your voices now.
We are the human resources.

We are the human resources.

Hello.

There is one line that I’m not sure if it’s correct:
What you like to drink, fight, fuck, and your voices now.

It just doesn’t seem to sound right… If you can actually hear what they’re saying, please do tell me.

New Projects and Blogs

Wow… It’s been awhile since my last post, but I’ve been working on a new project which isn’t quite ready to be revealed yet. It will be in due time. I’ve also started 3 separate blogs:

  • HD Trailers – A blog about HD (High Definition) Trailers and how to download them
  • Modern Evolution – Evolution is happening everywhere around us today.
  • Sue Happy – Just how “Sue Happy” is America?

The latter 2 are just collections of articles which I find particularly interesting, while also giving my opinion on them. The 1st one (HD Trailers) might be retired once my “project” gets completed.

Random Crap:

Perfect Petzzz (from Cari) – These sleeping puppies and kittens plush / stuffed animals are so cute!!!

Yahoo! Be a Better Planet (from SD) – Yahoo! is on a mission to find and reward America’s most eco-friendly city. Can your hometown claim that title? Join in now to help your city win a fleet of hybrid taxis, and get free compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) for your efforts. I’ve also been a big fan for fluorescent light. Not only because it saves me a bunch on my electricity bill, but also the fact that it’s white light compared to the yellowish light most regular light bulbs emit. Also, you never burn yourself trying to touch one, because it just never gets that hot.

Prosthetics (from Digg) – Robert Barron is a master of disguises. He uses his artistry to create realistic body parts for those who are missing them.

The man who owns the InternetKevin Ham is the most powerful dotcom mogul you’ve never heard of, reports Business 2.0 Magazine. Here’s how the master of Web domains built a $300 million empire.

Online Savings from Washington Mutual (from SD) – Wamu apparently has joined the rank of the online high interest savings account game. Although 5% isn’t shocking to many, the good thing about Wamu is the fact they have branches everywhere. You can easily link up your checking account and online savings account. When you use your Wamu ATM card at any ATM, they won’t charge you any fee. I’m not certain if they’ll refund the fees that the ATM itself charges, but Wamu has always been customer friendly in my opinion.

Robot Arm Pours Beer Into Glass (from MS newsgroup) – You’ve probably seen the Kuka Robotic Arm in other videos before (one even had it swinging samurai swords around), but this one is program to perfect beer pouring from a bottle into a glass.

Hjo3 posted this awhile back about how the opening song of BPS (Battle Programmer Shirase) is actually using the melody of Rick Astley – Never Gonna Give You Up. I never knew this, then again I’m not that familiar with songs from the 80’s and 70’s, but this was interesting trivia knowledge. I do have to say, Rick Astley’s voice doesn’t quite match his face.

Ant Buster (from Digg) – Another Tower Defense type of game, where this time, there’s actually more freedom for the attackers, and the attackers (ants) are actually stealing pieces of pizza from you.

Xbox LIVE Brings You Even More Matrix Content (from Ars) – I got my copy a few days ago. Circuit City had it on sale for $20 (price mistake) and they actually decided to ship 1 copy per customer, which was pretty cool. Then again, I don’t have a HD DVD player yet, but Matrix being my favorite movie of all time, I have a hard time deciding if I should sell this or not. Plus the fact, I can download the Animatrix in HD via Xbox Live makes it even tougher. When you purchase The Complete Matrix Trilogy, you will also receive a token in the box to download the entire Animatrix series from Xbox LIVE® Marketplace. Unfortunately, I posted this a bit too late, but you were also able to download HD trailers and clips of the Matrix via Xbox Live: From May 15 through May 25, download free content like HD trailers from all three Matrix movies and some of your favorite scenes in HD like “Bullet Time in the Subway” and “Morpheus fighting Agent Smith.” You can also purchase and download themes for all three films plus Animatrix.

Captive shark had ‘virgin birth’ (from Digg) – Female hammerhead sharks can reproduce without having sex, scientists confirm. Story was somewhat interesting, but the funniest was when commented: Jesus Shark?

Top 4 Ways You’re Wasting Gas When You Think You’re Saving It (from Digg) –

  1. Driving across town to save a nickel on a gallon of gas.
  2. Driving on the highway with their windows down to avoid using the air conditioner.
  3. Driving with their truck’s tailgate down.
  4. Accelerating extremely slowly.

#1 is a toughie. I agree that it’s rather stupid to drive across tow to save a nickel per gallon, but what about driving 3 blocks or planning a trip across town so you can stop by the cheap gas station? CDMCC and I had an argument about this awhile back. It wasn’t really about saving on gas, but the time you spent driving 3 extra blocks to save a dime per gallon. If you have a 15 gallon tank, that equates to a saving of $1.50. To drive those 3 extra blocks, you’ve wasted more than 5 minutes already. Is 5 minutes of time really worth the $1.50 savings? I dunno, but coming from a family that squeezes the most out of a penny, I’m always willing to drive the 3 extra blocks, and with tools like Seattle Gas Prices (or the corresponding gas price searching tool for your area), it makes it easy to find the gas stations that is cheap and not too far out of your way.

#2 is also something I’ve known for awhile, since Mechy often talked about aerodynamics of car. Opening windows just breaks that efficiency.

15 (Painfully) Unforgettable Cartoon Theme Songs (from Digg) – It’s tragic, really. For every math formula forgotten, every anniversary that passes unremembered, and every pet ferret dead from starvation, there’s a cartoon theme song from our youth, tenaciously hogging our limited mental hard drive space. In what is perhaps some sort of small attempt to exorcise these demonically persistent tunes from the depths of our consciousness, we’ve ranked 15 of them through the highly technical and thoroughly researched process of writing down whichever ones we could remember/find on YouTube first. Enjoy. Haha! Ungsunghero and I enjoyed this post as it sure brought back a bunch of memories. We even pointed out a few that they forgot to include: Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers and Darkwing Duck. What happened to cartoons? They use to be awesome and now, they’re just the same stupid crap over and over again.

Secret Sauce

RayAlome linked me to this video: United 300 which is a parody on what I can only assume to be a merge of United Flight 93 (during 9/11) and 300 (the new movie with Leonidas and his 300 Spartans). Hilarious parody I must say.

This ultimately led me to their website: Secret Sauce, which had a ton more hilarious parodies. Here’s a few I wanted to share:

  • The DefartedThe follow up to the Academy Award winning film. A spoof on The Departed about farting
  • Little Miss JackassLittle Miss Sunshine’s Olive Hoover does stunts, a 9-year-old girl would Never do! Submitted for consideration in the 2007 MTV MOVIE AWARDS SPO
  • How to Bang My Wife – a parody of The Fray’s How to Save A life about trying to convince your wife to have sex with you.
  • HairyBack – a parody of Justin Timberlake’s SexyBack about hairy chests and backs.

Random Crap:

Patada subte Times Square (from Chokoboii) – algun dia me tenia que tocar a mi filmar algo asi. While break dancing, a little toddler wanders into the dance area and gets back-flip kicked. OUCH! A day or 2 later, someone’s made a remix of it: REMIX: Patada subte Times Square Techno Video Game Remix (from RayAlome). I couldn’t help but laugh.

Baby issued Illinois gun ID cardBubba Ludwig can’t walk, talk or open the refrigerator door — but he does have his very own Illinois gun permit. … The card lists the baby’s height (2 feet, 3 inches), weight (20 pounds) and has a scribble where the signature should be. You’d think there’d be some age requirement to own a gun…

Indian train driver asks passengers to pushHundreds of Indian rail passengers got more than they had bargained for when the driver of their train asked them to get out and push. It took more than half an hour to move the stalled electric train 12 feet (4 metres) so that it touched live overhead wires and was able to resume its journey, officials said on Wednesday.

An Amputee Sprinter: Is He Disabled or Too-Abled? (from Digg) – Pistorius wants to be the first amputee runner to compete in the Olympics. But despite his ascendance, he is facing resistance from track and field’s world governing body, which is seeking to bar him on the grounds that the technology of his prosthetics may give him an unfair advantage over sprinters using their natural legs. Interesting… I’m not sure where I stand on this issue, but I do know, if people are allowed to modified their bodies to compete and if it’s proven that having these prosthetic legs allow you to run faster, many will be willing to chop off their own legs in order to compete for the gold. It’s the same reason why some people might want to become cyborgs or fuse weapons with their bodies. You can tell I’ve watched way too much anime. Then again, does becoming an amputee render you incapable of competing against regular people. It’s a tough question and I’m not sure there’s 1 correct answer.

* BE FOREWARNED, THE FOLLOWING LINKS CONTAIN DISTURBING AND DISGUSTING PHOTOS * I thought I knew insane. I didn’t know insane. (from Digg) – A very sad and disturbing story about the roommate from hell. While leaving poo everywhere was a side effect, she obviously needed help. Another blog entry has popped up about roommates from hell: People lived hereA guy from England rented his flat, people were living there and go away. and when the host returned he saw it.

The Lighthouse: An Innovative Green SkyscraperThe Lighthouse is another innovative green skyscraper to be constructed in Dubai. For energy generation, it will have three enormous 225 kilowatt wind turbines (29 meters in diameter), and 4000 photovoltaic panels on the south facing façade. To optimize performance and operational periods, the turbines have windward directional wind vanes or limited yaw. I really want to visit Dubai one of these days.

Strange alien world made of ‘hot ice’ (from /.) – Although the parent star is much cooler than the Sun, the planet orbits 13 times closer to the star than Mercury’s orbit around the Sun. That means the surface must be a blazing hot 300° C or more, keeping water in its atmosphere in vapor form. But the high pressures in the planet’s interior would compress the water so much that it would stay solid even at hundreds of degrees Celsius – the expected temperatures inside the planet. There are a variety of exotic ‘hot ice’ states possible in such conditions, with names like ‘Ice VII’ and ‘Ice X’.

Making work even more of a slog takes weight offThink work feels like a treadmill now? Try a new desk designed at the Mayo Clinic. … On average, their overweight volunteers burned 100 calories more every hour while walking slowly — at 1 mile per hour (1,6 km per hour) — than while sitting in a chair. Interesting concept. I wonder if I’d get annoyed to have to constantly walk.
